Family Prayers
By Ashton Oxenden & C. H. Ramsden

FIRST WEEK—TUESDAY MORNING

ALMIGHTY GOD, in whom alone we live, and move, and have our being, graciously accept the prayers and praises with which we would begin another day.

We thank Thee for Thy watchful care over us, and for all Thy bounty towards us. Grant, O Lord, that we may show our thankfulness to Thee, not only with our lips but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to Thy service, and by daily endeavoring to do such things as are pleasing to Thee.

We bless Thee that in Thy holy Word Thou has made known to us Thy will. Make us to love and prize that Word more. Forgive our past neglect and unprofitable use of it. Forgive our want of reverence and faith in reading it. O gracious God, by whose inspiration the Scriptures were written, speak through them to our inmost souls. Let them be spirit and life to us. Let them bring to us special messages from heaven. Open our eyes that we may behold wondrous things out of Thy law. And give us a teachable mind, that we may receive with humility what God the Lord shall speak unto us.

Lord, preserve us this day in body and soul. Be pleased to grant us such a measure of health and strength, that we may be enabled rightly to fulfill the duties of our several stations. And do keep our hearts steadfast in Thy fear and love all the day long. Never suffer us to forget that Thou, God, sees us. Hold up our goings in Thy path, that our footsteps slip not. In word and deed may we seek to adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things, and to prove ourselves His true disciples. May our light so shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify Thee our heavenly Father.

Make us also more anxious about the souls of others. Help us this day to be in some measure useful to our fellow- men. May Jesus Christ and His great salvation be so precious to our own souls, that we may be filled with earnest desires to make His love known to all around us.

Bless the ministers of Thy Church. And, O Lord of the harvest, send forth many faithful laborers into Thy harvest. Prosper especially the efforts of all Thy missionary servants. Gather from out of heathen lands many who are as sheep without a shepherd. Grant that the veil may be taken from their hearts, so that they may acknowledge Jesus of Nazareth as their Redeemer and their King.

And now, Lord, we commit ourselves to Thy care for the coming day. May we act as in Thy presence, and do all this day to Thy glory.

Hear us, we beseech Thee for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
