Family Prayers By Ashton Oxenden & C. H. Ramsden   FIRST WEEK—FRIDAY MORNING   HEAR our cry, O God; attend unto our prayer. Encouraged by Thy manifold mercies, and by the exceeding great and precious promises of Thy Word, we draw near as a family to Thy throne of grace. Be pleased by Thy Holy Spirit so to influence the heart of each one before Thee, that the prayers which we now offer up in the Savior’s name may be acceptable in Thy sight.   Our voice shall Thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will we direct our prayer unto Thee, and will look up. O lead us this day in Thy righteousness; make Thy way straight before our Thee. Grant that we may perceive and know what things we ought to do; and whatever we do, may we do it heartily as unto the Lord, and not unto man.   O Lord, we confess that our hearts are deceitful above all things. Knowing this, may we continually feel our need of Thy sanctifying grace. Keep us from pride, self-will, and presumption. Plant in our hearts Thy holy fear; and may we show such meekness, and gentleness, and humility, as become the true followers of Christ.   While we are this day diligent in our various employments, give us grace at the same time to be earnest in serving Thee. May the constant recollection of Thy manifold and great mercies incline us to present our souls and bodies a living sacrifice unto Thee. May we not be conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of our minds, that we may know and do Thy holy will.   O God, our souls cleave unto the dust; quicken us, we beseech Thee, according to Thy Word. Let us not be so much occupied with earthly things as to forget the one thing needful. Lord, root out all our unbelief, and enable us to walk more by faith, and less by sight, than we have hitherto done; enable us to look more at things unseen, and to endure as seeing Thee who art invisible.   We need, O Heavenly Father, the continual help of Thy Holy Spirit, that we may love Thy word more and understand it better, that we may take more delight in prayer, and be more and more influenced by the love of Christ our Savior. O supply this our need. Give us that which we so much want, and which Thou has so graciously promised—give us Thy Holy Spirit, to be the Guide of our lives, and the Comfort of our souls.   O Lord, where we are wrong, do Thou direct us. if we have stepped aside from the right path, do Thou lead us back. Make us day by day, we beseech Thee, more and more heavenly-minded.   Lord, accept our praises for Thy many and great mercies, and graciously answer our prayers, which we humbly offer up in the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.   The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore.
