Family Prayers
By Ashton Oxenden & C. H. Ramsden

FIRST WEEK—SATURDAY MORNING

O GRACIOUS GOD, look down in mercy and loving-kindness upon us Thine unworthy servants, who now, in the name of Jesus Christ, approach Thy mercy-seat.

We come to ask Thee for Thy blessing, and to thank Thee for Thy kindness. Day unto day utters speech; and the speech of every day is that Thou are good, and kind, and gracious. Lord, fill our hearts with gratitude; and be graciously pleased to accept our imperfect prayers and thanksgivings.

We are entering upon the duties of another day. Give us the grace and wisdom that we need. Cause us to hear Thy loving-kindness in the morning, for in Thee do we trust: cause us to know the way wherein we should walk, for we lift up our souls unto Thee. Thou has appointed unto us our several duties: O may we faithfully fulfill them as Thy servants. Keep us from being over anxious about the favor of our fellow creatures; may it,rather be our study to show ourselves approved unto Thee. Deliver us from that fear of man which brings a snare; from all deceit fullness and guile; from pride, vainglory, and hypocrisy.

O Lord, sanctify us, we pray, in body, soul, and spirit. Make us truly and entirely Thine. May our wills be brought into subjection to Thy will, and may we walk humbly with Thee all the day long.

We may this day be exposed to temptation; O do shield us by Thine almighty power. Suffer us not by any inconsistency of conduct to bring a reproach upon our Christian profession. Grant unto us the blessing of a tender and enlightened conscience. May we see clearly what is dangerous and sinful, and by Thy grace watch and fight against it. We pray that we may love Thee more, and serve Thee better; that we may find more and more, by happy experience, that Thy ways are ways of pleasantness and paths of peace. We pray that we may have an increasing love for Thy Holy Word, and that its truths may be as light to our minds, and as food to our souls.

We ask, O Lord, an especial blessing upon all the ministers of Thy Word. Enable them by Thy grace rightly to discharge their high and holy office. Fill their hearts with light and love. Let Thy Holy Spirit be with them, guiding them into all truth, so that they may come forth in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of peace to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

O Thou Lord of the harvest, send forth more laborers into Thy harvest. Gather in from all nations a people unto Thyself. Let the heathen be given unto Thy Son for His inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession. Have mercy on Thine ancient people Israel; remove their unbelief; and bring them into Thy fold. And now, O Heavenly Father, graciously hear and answer these our supplications, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
