Holding on to the One greater than I

I no longer have my wife, my love
The one who was given me, from God above.
We were as one, so close, so true
God brought us together and we said ‘I do.’

She was my counselor, my confidant, my friend
She stuck with me through thick and thin.
She did more for me than I ever did for her
Her love was constant, unchanging, and quite secure.

She loved me even when I was hard to love
When I’d ask her why she would say ‘because.’
Because you are the one God gave to me
To love me, protect me and hold me closely.

She was my wife, I was her man
Together we walked hand in hand.
But now she’s not with me, I walk all alone
For the Lord who gave her has now taken her home.

The road I walk is now quite lonely
No human to hold, to talk to who knows me.
But one thing I know that I must do
Hold on to the One who is faithful and true.

I must hold on to the One who is greater than I
Christ Jesus my Lord for my sins He died.
He died to redeem me and with Him I’ll be
Where my wife is right now so happy and free.

He alone will help me, to walk this road I tread
So now there is nothing that I need to dread.
For though I walk alone with no human friend
He is always with me and His love will never end
