God is Able

A while back a friend of mine gave me a little booklet entitled 101 Things God Can’t Do.  In it are one-line sayings and then a Scripture stating things that it is impossible for God to do.  For instance: God can’t lie, Hebrews 6:18; God can’t forsake you, Hebrews 13:5; God can’t despise a contrite heart, Psalm 51:17; God can’t get weary, Isaiah 40:28.  It is a great reminder of the unchanging fact that the Lord God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent.

Have you been awed by God’s power lately?  Have you stopped to allow yourself to be?  Take a moment to just pause and look at the intricacies of His creation – the heavens and the earth – and allow yourself to wonder at the power of the One who brought them into existence.  Too often we are expecting God to do something for us right now to prove His power and we fail to look around us and see what He has already done.  In the book of Psalms we read, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands” (19:1).  O Christian, do you really need God to do something new and spectacular for you?  Can you not just open your eyes and see the awesome wonder of His creation and be bewildered by the fact that in the midst of all His creation He has called you and revealed His Son to you?  Does that not prove to you that He loves you, cherishes you, and that He is powerful towards you?

Too often we allow the circumstances of life around us to get us down instead of allowing the God of the universe to lift us up.  We think that God doesn’t love us, or that He is unable to deliver us since we don’t see any immediate change around us.  O my friend, this should not be!  Do not look at the things around you; look to The One whom surrounds you!  If the things of life are overwhelming you it is because you’re not allowing yourself to be awed by the truth of God.  Does His Word not declare to you His love, His power, and His ability?

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  Just as it is written, "For Thy sake we are being put to death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”  But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:31-39

O child of God, if nothing is able to separate you from the love of God which is yours in Christ Jesus our Lord, then God IS able to love you no matter what happens, and God IS able to protect you no matter what is going on around you! God doesn’t need to do anything more than what He has already done to prove to you His power and His love.  He has done it all through His Son Jesus Christ. Christ’s death and resurrection proved once and for all that God IS able.  So please, my brethren, stop looking at yourself and your circumstances and start looking to Him again, and again, and again, and don’t stop looking.

My prayer is that you will look to Him alone and realize more and more that God IS able. God is able because Jesus Christ was (and continues to be) victorious and if Christ is in you, then you are victorious as well.
