A Biblical Guide to Prayer - Part 11 Biblical Prayers & Examples of Prayer – Part 4 · Prayers in the Psalms Here is a sampling of the many prayers that are contained in the book of Psalms. The Psalms are excellent to read through continually as we learn what it is to be intimate with God. Read the Psalms continually with an attitude of prayer and you’ll find yourself growing closer to the Lord as you grow in the discipline of prayer. Psalm 9:19, 20 Arise, O Lord, do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged before Thee. Put them in fear, O Lord; Let the nations know that they are but men. Selah. Psalm 25:6 Remember, O Lord, Thy compassion and Thy lovingkindnesses, for they have been from of old. Psalm 25:16-20 Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. Look upon my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins. Look upon my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with violent hatred. Guard my soul and deliver me; do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in Thee. Psalm 27:9 Do not hide Thy face from me, do not turn Thy servant away in anger; Thou hast been my help; do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation! Psalm 31:2-5 Incline Thine ear to me, rescue me quickly; be Thou to me a rock of strength, a stronghold to save me. For Thou art my rock and my fortress; For Thy name's sake Thou wilt lead me and guide me. Thou wilt pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me; for Thou art my strength. Into Thy hand I commit my spirit; Thou hast ransomed me, O Lord, God of truth.
Psalm 69:6 May those who wait for Thee not be ashamed through me, O Lord God of hosts; May those who seek Thee not be dishonored through me, O God of Israel, Psalm 69:13-19 But as for me, my prayer is to Thee, O Lord, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, Answer me with Thy saving truth. Deliver me from the mire, and do not let me sink; May I be delivered from my foes, and from the deep waters. May the flood of water not overflow me, and may the deep not swallow me up, and may the pit not shut its mouth on me. Answer me, O Lord, for Thy lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Thy compassion, turn to me, and do not hide Thy face from Thy servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly. Oh draw near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies! Thou dost know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor; all my adversaries are before Thee. Psalm 71:17-21 O God, Thou hast taught me from my youth; And I still declare Thy wondrous deeds. And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Thy strength to this generation, Thy power to all who are to come. For Thy righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens, Thou who hast done great things; O God, who is like Thee? Thou, who hast shown me many troubles and distresses, Wilt revive me again, And wilt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. Mayest Thou increase my greatness, and turn to comfort me. Psalm 74:10-23 How long, O God, will the adversary revile, and the enemy spurn Thy name forever? Why dost Thou withdraw Thy hand, even Thy right hand? From within Thy bosom, destroy them! Remember this, O Lord, that the enemy has reviled; And a foolish people has spurned Thy name. Do not deliver the soul of Thy turtledove to the wild beast; do not forget the life of Thine afflicted forever. Consider the covenant; for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence. Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Thy name. Do arise, O God, and plead Thine own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches Thee all day long. Do not forget the voice of Thine adversaries, the uproar of those who rise against Thee which ascends continually. Psalm 79:8-13 Do not remember the iniquities of our forefathers against us; Let Thy compassion come quickly to meet us; for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy name; and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for Thy name's sake. Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let there be known among the nations in our sight, Vengeance for the blood of Thy servants, which has been shed. Let the groaning of the prisoner come before Thee; According to the greatness of Thy power preserve those who are doomed to die. And return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom the reproach with which they have reproached Thee, O Lord. So we Thy people and the sheep of Thy pasture will give thanks to Thee forever; to all generations we will tell of Thy praise. Psalm 83:1-3, 13-18 O God, do not remain quiet; do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. For, behold, Thine enemies make an uproar; and those who hate Thee have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Thy people, and conspire together against Thy treasured ones…O my God, make them like the whirling dust; like chaff before the wind. Like fire that burns the forest, And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, so pursue them with Thy tempest, And terrify them with Thy storm. Fill their faces with dishonor, that they may seek Thy name, O Lord. Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever; and let them be humiliated and perish, that they may know that Thou alone, whose name is the Lord, Art the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 86:1-17 Incline Thine ear, O Lord, and answer me; for I am afflicted and needy. Pslam 86:2 Do preserve my soul, for I am a godly man; O Thou my God, save Thy servant who trusts in Thee. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to Thee I cry all day long. Make glad the soul of Thy servant, for to Thee, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon Thee. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; and give heed to the voice of my supplications! In the day of my trouble I shall call upon Thee, For Thou wilt answer me. There is no one like Thee among the gods, O Lord; nor are there any works like Thine. All nations whom Thou hast made shall come and worship before Thee, O Lord; and they shall glorify Thy name. For Thou art great and doest wondrous deeds; Thou alone art God. Teach me Thy way, O Lord; I will walk in Thy truth; Unite my heart to fear Thy name. I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and will glorify Thy name forever. For Thy lovingkindness toward me is great, and Thou hast delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. O God, arrogant men have risen up against me, and a band of violent men have sought my life, And they have not set Thee before them. But Thou, O Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth. Turn to me, and be gracious to me; Oh grant Thy strength to Thy servant, And save the son of Thy handmaid. Show me a sign for good, that those who hate me may see it, and be ashamed, because Thou, O Lord, hast helped me and comforted me. Psalm 106:47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to Thy holy name, and glory in Thy praise. Psalm 109:21-29 But Thou, O God, the Lord, deal kindly with me for Thy name's sake; because Thy lovingkindness is good, deliver me; for I am afflicted and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. I am passing like a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off like the locust. My knees are weak from fasting; and my flesh has grown lean, without fatness. I also have become a reproach to them; when they see me, they wag their head. Help me, O Lord my God; Save me according to Thy lovingkindness. And let them know that this is Thy hand; Thou, Lord, hast done it. Let them curse, but do Thou bless; when they arise, they shall be ashamed, but Thy servant shall be glad. Let my accusers be clothed with dishonor, and let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
