A Biblical Guide to Prayer - Part 2 Prayer Promises The Scriptures are full of promises to encourage us in our praying – not only helping us to realize that God wants us to pray and that we have access to Him but also that He hears our prayers. We must never think that God doesn’t hear or that He never answers our prayers. He answers every prayer – yes, no, or wait. It may not be how we want Him to answer but it is always for our best and His glory because His will is good, acceptable , and perfect (Romans 12:2). Psalm 3:4 I was crying to the Lord with my voice, and He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah. Psalm 6:9 The Lord has heard my supplication, The Lord receives my prayer. Psalm 10:17 O Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble; Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt incline Thine ear Psalm 18:6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry for help before Him came into His ears. Psalm 28:6, 7 Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplication. The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him. Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. Psalm 50:14, 15 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High; and call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me. Psalm 55:16, 17 As for me, I shall call upon God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur, And He will hear my voice. Psalm 65:2 O Thou who dost hear prayer, To Thee all men come. Psalm 65:5 By awesome deeds Thou dost answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, Thou who art the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea; Psalm 66:16-20 Come and hear, all who fear God, And I will tell of what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear; but certainly God has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His lovingkindness from me. Psalm 69:33 For the Lord hears the needy, and does not despise His who are prisoners. Psalm 77:1 My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; my voice rises to God, and He will hear me. Psalm 86:5-7 For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon Thee. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; and give heed to the voice of my supplications! In the day of my trouble I shall call upon Thee, For Thou wilt answer me. Psalm 91:14-16 Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him, and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him, and let him behold My salvation. Psalm 102:17-22 He has regarded the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer. This will be written for the generation to come; that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For He looked down from His holy height; From heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner; To set free those who were doomed to death; that men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem; when the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord. Psalm 116:1, 2 I love the Lord, because He hears my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. Psalm 118:5-8 From my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a large place. The Lord is for me; I will not fear; what can man do to me? The Lord is for me among those who help me; therefore I shall look with satisfaction on those who hate me. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. Psalm 120:1 In my trouble I cried to the Lord, and He answered me. Psalm 138:1-3 I will give Thee thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to Thee before the gods. I will bow down toward Thy holy temple, and give thanks to Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and Thy truth; for Thou hast magnified Thy word according to all Thy name. On the day I called Thou didst answer me; Thou didst make me bold with strength in my soul. Psalm 145:18-20 The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them. The Lord keeps all who love Him; But all the wicked, He will destroy. Lamentations 3:25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him. Matthew 7:7-11 Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened. Or what man is there among you, when his son shall ask him for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he shall ask for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! Matthew 21:22 And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive. Mark 11:23, 24 Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you. John 14:13, 14 And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you. Romans 8:26, 27 And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Philippians 4:6, 7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Hebrews 4:14-16 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need. 1 John 5:14, 15 And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. By God's Grace ~ Through God's Word ~ For God's Glory! Chuck Long ©God’sGWG |
