Good Tidings of His Salvation

Part 1

“Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.”                                                                                                                 -Psalm 96:2

My brethren in Christ, I may not know what you are going through at this very moment, but chances are you are being bombarded with the worries and concerns of life.  It is quite possible that you are in despair and without hope (or you know someone who is).  It is very probable that you have been duped by our post-modern world that declares there is no truth, there are no absolutes, there is no right and wrong and as a result, you find yourself thinking that there is no hope.

Well, I do believe that there is truth, there are absolutes, and there is right and wrong.  And, I believe that there is hope for those who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.  This week I want to proclaim to you some good tidings of His salvation that belong to those who are in Christ.  It is my prayer that these truths will permeate deep into your mind and soul and dispel the darkness that might be there.  It is my prayer for you that you will see the riches of His grace that have been lavished upon you not based on feelings but on Truth – the finished work of Jesus Christ.  Take these truths and speak them, meditate on them, thank God for them, and proclaim them to others.

What God has done for those who are in Christ Jesus:

1.      You’ve received eternal life.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” John 5:24

2.      You have been blessed beyond all comprehension.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”  Ephesians 1:3

3.      You’ve been given life and godliness.

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:2, 3

4.      You’ve been forgiven of the penalty of sin.

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

5.      You’ve been freed from the power of sin.

“For the death that He died, He died to sin, once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.  Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.  For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.” Romans 6:10-14

6.      You will be delivered from the presence of sin.

“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is.”  1 John 3:2

7.      You’ve been declared righteous.

“Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1

8.      You’ve been clothed with His righteousness.

“But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption.” 1 Corinthians 1:30

9.      You’ve been made anew.

“Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

10.  You’ve been redeemed – bought out of the slave market of sin.

“For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13,14;

11.  You’ve been reconciled to God – made to be at peace with Him.

“For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” Romans 5:10

12.  You’ve been sanctified – declared holy and set apart from the world for God.

“And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11

As you read the above truths, did you find yourself saying, “Wow, what a wonderful salvation!  What a wonderful Savior!”  Or, did you find yourself saying; “I know this”?  If your response was the latter, then I challenge you to go over them again.  You may know them intellectually, but are these truths true of you experientially? Don’t just skim through the above truths with an “I know this already attitude.”  Let these truths sink deep into your very being.

Next week we will be looking at some additional truths that are true of those who are in Christ. Until then I echo the prayer of the Apostle Paul for you,

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come.  And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him who fills all in all.  Ephesians 1:18-23
