Good Tidings of His Salvation

Part 2

“Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.”                                                                                                           -Psalm 96:2

This past week I was struck by a line in Matthew 27:40 where people were hurling abusive statements at Jesus as He hung on the cross.  The line that really hit me was when they said, “If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”  What made me stop and think was, "What if Jesus had?"  Jesus definitely could have called upon the Father to send angels to come and rescue Him but He didn’t.  Imagine where we would be today if Jesus had come done from the cross!  The work would not have been finished and we would still be lost and hopeless.  We should be very thankful that He didn’t give heed to that abusive statement and went all the way.  As a result the Father was glorified and we have been justified!

Last week we looked at twelve things that are true of those who are in Christ.  This week I want to proclaim to you thirteen additional truths.

1.      You’ve been given the Holy Spirit.

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory.  Ephesians 1:13, 14

2.      You’ve been placed into the body of Christ.

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.  1 Corinthians 12:13

3.      You’ve been made complete.

For in Him all the fulness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority.  Colossians 2:9, 10

4.      You’ve been adopted into God’s family (and the adoption is irrevocable).

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.  John 1:12

But when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.  And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"  Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.  Galatians 4:4-7

5.      You have direct access to God.

for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.  Ephesians 2:18

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:14-16

Since therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.  Hebrews 10:19-22

6.      You are a citizen of heaven.

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Philippians 3:20

7.      You are a priest of God.

you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5

8.      You’ve been transformed from the domain of darkness and placed into His marvelous light.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.  1 Peter 2:9

9.      You are an ambassador for Christ.

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  2 Corinthians 5:20

10.  You’ve been made victorious.

Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?  Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!  Romans 7:24, 25

But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.  Romans 8:37

but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  1 Corinthians 15:57

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-- our faith.  1 John 5:4

11.  You are protected by God.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.  1 Peter 1:3-5

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:38,39

12.  You are being transformed into the image of Christ.

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren.  Romans 8:29

But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.  2 Corinthians 3:18

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.  Philippians 1:6

13.  You are a glory to God in Christ.

to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.  Ephesians 1:12

to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.  Colossians 1:27

Jesus hung on the cross for you and for me.  He went all the way and did not turn back.  Let us always keep our eyes fixed on Him and be men and women who are continually lifting up shouts of praise to God our Father for so great a salvation, which Jesus Christ our Lord has secured for us.  And Let us continually be proclaiming the glad tidings of His salvation to all those who are around us so that the world may know Him!

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.  Hebrews 12:1-3
